Afrodita depilacija

When it comes to hair removal, it seems like an easy task, but on the other hand you often hear stories where something went terribly wrong. It actually can be easy, at least if you find the right method (and product) for you. I’ve been constantly on a search for the ultimate hair removal product, the years of trying different methods taught me what to look for, when and where to be careful, as well as some useful tips and tricks. I’ve done waxing (at home and at the salon) with cold and hot wax as well as sugaring paste, tweezing, tried home IPL laser removal, epilators (gosh, no!), of course used our old friend – razor and depilatory cream. Finding the right method can be a tough job, since it depends on a variety of factors: the amount of time you have, your skin type and sensitivity, the body part you want to remove your hair from, your level of pain tolerance, while money is a factor as well. The latter is not a problem, if you’re opting for the (re)new(ed) Afrodita Cosmetic range. For those of you who are wondering, Afrodita Cosmetics is a Slovenian skincare brand, known for superb quality and (mostly) affordable prices. I’ve been putting to the test their depilation range for the past two months and decided to share with you my thoughts on their products and some tips that might come in handy to you.

Shaving

Using a razor is probably the most widespread option out there. It works on every body part and it’s the easiest option if you’re lacking time. However, for the hair to grow back and start noticing it might take from only 1 to 3 days, so the most important thing is to find a good razor (men’s are usually best, at least in my opinion), as well as a great shaving gel / product. Here is where Afrodita Cosmetics has the product that you’re going to love: Afrodita Shave & Shower gel is a hybrid between a shaving product and shower gel. It’s easy to use and it will help you get the closest, smoothest and least irritated cut as well as save some time (you won’t need to use the regular shaving cream, gel or foam).

Useful tips: shave in the direction the hair grows, replace your razor often, wet your skin and apply Afrodita Shave & Shower gel to get the best shave.

Waxing

Waxing at home can be a difficult task. Unless you have high pain tolerance, I wouldn’t recommend you go for this method of hair removing anywhere else than on your legs and maybe hands (if you remove your hair there anyway, I don’t). Waxing the bikini area can be quite a challenge, while the result is a spot-hairless skin for up to 4-5 weeks. Afrodita offers two versions of cold wax strips for the body – Supreme and Sensitive. Supreme is suitable for those with dryer skin type, since it contains nourishing argan oil and vitamin E, while the Sensitive version with camomile and calendula extract is the best option for all who’s skin is more sensitive. My winner is the Supreme version, it works amazing for my skin – with minimal redness, no bumps or infections. I tried it once on my bikini area as well, it worked great, however I am not sure I will go down this road again (it’s not the most pleasant experience out there, if I may say). Afrodita Extra Sensitive hair removal cold wax strips are the additional product, designed specifically for the delicate areas, such as face, armpits and bikini area. My mum and mother-in-law use them for their face, they both swear by them from the first usage.

Useful tips: hair needs to be at least few millimetres long for the wax to grab it, make sure your skin is completely clean and dry before waxing, use a calming product afterwards (Afrodita After Depilation gel 3 in 1 is my recommendation).

Hair removal creams

Hair removal cream is a chemical-based product, which after being spread on the skin for a few minutes dissolves the hair. After washing it off, your hair is removed leaving your skin super soft without any pain. Regarding the time it takes the hair to grow back, it’s definitely not as efficient as waxing, but way better than shaving. I’ve tried many in the past, some of them irritated my skin, however the newest Afrodita acquisitions don’t. Afrodita offers three different versions, each turned out to be equally efficient in removing hair, at least for me. Supreme hair removal cream has a nourishing formula, containing argan oil and is suitable for dry skin (and therefore being my favourite out of the bunch). Hydra version with aloe vera is moisturising and works well for normal skin, while the Sensitive one has a calming effect containing chamomile. They are all affordable (5,50€ each) and last definitely more than 5 usages (applying them on the lower parts of the legs). Hair removal creams are easy to use and definitely a better alternative to waxing if you’re a beginner (or not having the highest tolerance for pain). If you fancy one for your face, Afrodita has the Extra Sensitive version in their lineup, which is best for delicate areas such as face and bikini. I’ve never tried it on my face (since I don’t need one there), however this is in fact the only hair removal cream I’ve ever put on my bikini area. It surprisingly didn’t irritated my skin, while it left a silky smooth hairless final result.

Useful tips: make sure you spread hair removal cream equally, keep it working for 3 to 10 minutes (not more!), rinse off thoroughly with water afterwards.

After

Applying a post-shave treatment is a must especially after waxing. Afrodita After Depilation gel 3 in 1 has the calming and antibacterial effect, reduces the appearance of unwanted red spots and helps prevent ingrown hair. It is also proven to slow down hair growth, which sounds promising, right? I’ve been using it after cold-waxing and I must say it truly makes my skin more calm and less irritated. As far as slowing down hair growth, I am not completely sure, but anyway, it is a must step for me.

Off-the-shoulder

If there’s one trend that I can’t get enough this moment, is the off-the-shoulder trend. It offers the right amount of sexy, chic and trendy vibe, it’s appropriate for many occasions and it’s easy to incorporate in variety of outfits. Off-the-shoulder tops, off-the-shoulder dresses, off-the-shoulder jumpsuits and even swimsuits, the trend is definitely big. This summer, I’ve decided to incorporate it in my wardrobe in the form of a top (you can see me wearing it in this post) and this light blue dress.

Style tip: make sure you find a great strapless bra. You can add some bronzer on the décolleté and you will definitely win some serious style points in Autumn as well!

Hotel La Semilla

After relaxing under the palm trees on Tulum beach, we headed back to Playa del Carmen. Mainly because Playa is probably the best starting point to discover the inner part of the Yucatan Peninsula (we booked a full-day trip to one of the new 7 wonders of the world – Chichen Itza), do some more shopping and enjoy the city vibe. This time we stayed at the Hotel La Semilla, a stunning Rough-Luxe boutique hotel with a superb location.

Location: right next to hustle and bustle, while far enough to relax

Hotel La Semilla is located in the close proximity of the 5h Avenue, the main street (where everything happens) in Playa del Carmen. Its small property is located in Calle 38, a short walk away from all the hustle and bustle and not far from the sandy beach. You’ve got everything you need in the distance of a few steps, you can grab a hotel beach kit and head over to the Caribbean sea or explore the area by bicycle or foot.

Style: Rough-Luxe decor with the attention to detail

Rough-Luxe movement, some may call it “shabby chic”, is the latest trend for boutique hotels focusing on mixing different styles and uniqueness, including vintage flea market pieces. Attention to details in all of the 9 rooms at the Hotel La Semilla is just everything! Each piece tells its own story, mixing retro designs and antiques with a modern approach. That’s why Hotel La Semilla is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a unique stay. Even though my place in Slovenia looks anything but similar to Hotel La Semilla, It felt like home. We were warmly welcomed by their staff and had a lovely chat with the hotel owner Alexis Schärer. His story definitely left us inspired. He came from Europe, met his Mexican wife while living in New York and together they passionately decided to take a chance by starting their own vision of dream hotel (besides managing, he does a lot of the work on the hotel by himself, while she has the eye for décor; they are indeed a perfect duo). The La Semilla name will soon grow in a new project, the Villa La Semilla, located near Tulum. I am sure this one will be as spectacular as the one we visited. Hopefully, I will be able to enjoy it some day.

Favourite spots: the tree garden and the terrace

As I previously mentioned, every room at Hotel La Semilla has its own vibe and story. My favourite for sure are the tree garden and terrace areas, both different and relaxing at the same time. Having a delicious home-made organic breakfast in the middle of green forest was definitely the highlight of the 3 days we stayed at Hotel La Semilla. Their open-kitchen breakfast area was filled with a cool, laid-back bohemian atmosphere,… all of my senses were utterly pampered! The terrace right above the kitchen has a hammock, where you can chill and sip a glass of great wine (on the house!), while in the evenings you can take a glass on the rooftop terrace, where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the starry skies.

Luv Tulum Mexico

On the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Riviera Maya, there is a place called Paradise. Wait, did I say Paradise? I meant Tulum. There’s no surprise this place was once worshiped by Mayan Kings, it’s definitely one of the most heavenly places on Earth. Beautiful scenery, bohemian vibe, miles of white sandy beaches and palms, eco hotels with stunning ocean-front views, all in all, Tulum is magnificent. Straight from touristy Playa del Carmen, Tulum was waiting for us.

One step outside the room: sandy beaches, palm trees and turquoise water

We stayed at Luv Tulum in one of their 12 ocean-front rooms and cabanas. This family owned resort impressed us with an intimate atmosphere, stunning location (imagine my first walk from the reception in the lush jungle to our room on the pristine sandy beach; it left me speechless); Mayan-inspired décor and eco vibe. Believe it or not, one step outside our Ocean Front King room opened miles of powdery white beaches, we had our own terrace, a private place to chill underneath the palm trees and glance at the infinite crystal turquoise Caribbean water.

Filled with bohemian vibe and the eco-chic mentality

All the places along Tulum beach have limited electricity supplied by generators (which means no hairdryers and no air conditioning!), and it’s the minimal use of lighting that allows you to observe the crystal clear night sky full of stars. Night is also the time when turtles come to nest on the shore, we weren’t lucky enough to spot any in our 3 nights stay at Luv Tulum. But the bohemian vibe and the allure of white sandy beaches stretching for miles made us cancel our plans to visit Cancun at the end of our trip and rather return back to Tulum, but more on that in one of my next posts (we were also more lucky with the turtles, saw two little ones as well as the “mama grande”). Who could say “no” to wearing no shoes for days, drinking fresh coconuts (which just fall of the palm tree you lie under), laid-back vibe and turquoise Caribbean waters?

H&M Studio collection 2016

I’m sharing with you my second look in collaboration with H&M (check out the first one here). Their upcoming H&M Studio Collection Fall / Winter 2016 has totally won my heart. It’s full of folk and bohemian inspired pieces enriched with romantic and feminine touches. It’s all about female strength and empowerment, and that’s what I believe my all white look is all about. The combination of statement trousers, white fluffy sweater and a small unique snake-print bag is neither predictable nor completely safe, but definitely up my alley.

H&M Studio Collection Fall / Winter 2016 is coming in stores on 8th September 2016.
