Grazia Beauty Awards

Grazia Beauty Awards 2016 were held at the Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana a week ago. It was the first edition of Grazia Beauty Awards here in Slovenia and in my eyes it was a great success. I was honored to be a part of the jury and was given a chance to test out over 100 beauty products (111 to be exact) in order to find the most innovative and best-performing of them all. In the end 20 products deserved the Grazia Beauty Awards winner title, and it turned out a lot of my absolute favourites made the cut. The categories were unique and playful, everything from the product that could change your life, to the “wow” product one and the most feminine perfume. The awards were not only voted by us, the members of the jury, the readers could express their own opinion as well. I am honored to be considered one of the most influential people in the Slovenian beauty industry and therefore given a chance to be a part of this amazing project that gives applause to the best beauty products out there.

how to take care of your hair summer

Summer may bring glorious natural highlights and windblown wavy hair. But in reality it can damage your hair pretty bad as well. Sun can damage your hair’s cuticle, cause split ends, as well as brittle and dry hair. Sun exposure can be damaging for you skin and hair, unless you protect them right.

My hairdresser Danica Žibert from Hairsalon Lasek always says having great, beautiful and healthy hair consists of various factors. For sure the most important part of keeping your hair silky and smooth during the summer is to choose high quality hair products, that will condition you hair. She swears on brands like Redken, Alterna, Matrix, Literam and the freshly discovered Marulaoil. She believes a great haircare regime at home can do a lot, and I totally agree with her. Another thing she advises is to go for an intensive hair-care treatment at the salon when summer is around the corner, especially if your hair is on the dry side. At Lasek they advise to go for a natural (or maybe a bit darker than usual) hair gloss, hair glaze or colour. Your split hair tips should be cut off, otherwise the sun and salt water can damage them even more. It is extremely important not to forget to protect you hair from the damaging UV rays as well. You can do that by finding nourishing hair care products containing SPF and wearing headwear. Try to rinse off salt water as soon as you get out of the sea and refresh your hair with a conditioning hair spray. Your hair should be safe and there will be no need for drastic haircuts at the end of the hot summer months.

Each run should start with a warm up and potentially end with a cool down. Warming up and cooling down are as important as the main part of your training session. They might sound boring and unnecessary, but that’s so far from the real truth – do it with your friends (like I did with my blogger friend Tesa from Magnifique), it’s fun and believe me, an essential part of every run. So, here are a few thoughts on how to do it effectively:

Warming up

A good warm up dilates your blood vessels, increases blood flow and prepares your muscles for the proper workout. It raises you heart rate and muscle temperature therefore minimizing the risk of injuries and stress on your body. It’s fundamental to every workout and it’s a part where you shouldn’t feel severe exhaustion. A fast walk or slow 5-10 min run can do the trick, while you can also include some dynamic stretching or light exercises (like jumping).

Cooling down

Everyone talks about the importance of warming up, however most of us (me included) forget about the cooldown. Although it gets overlooked in a lot of cases, it really is important, since it keeps the blood flowing throughout the whole body and makes your blood pressure drop gradually. The same goes for your heart rate. You’re less likely to get painful sore muscles the day after workout and your recovery will be quicker, if you do it correctly (and regenerate your body with enough rest and the right food). Try doing a 3-5 minute cool down, either by jogging or walking. It’s recommended to add some stretching moves as well – they should be non-dynamic and mostly static held for longer periods (5-15 seconds).

Trieste was lovely. The Savoia Excelsior Palace hotel treated us like queens (hint: find a photo where I wear my “invisible” crown; which btw was a total coincidence), our Toyota Yaris Hybrid was a perfect choice for the narrow streets of Trieste city. We explored the main part of the old town by foot of course, had some laughs and chats, enjoyed some yummy food and were fascinated by the magnificent architecture. An outfit photoshoot was inevitable, here is the final result of one of my daily looks.
