Mallorca travel guide

Thinking about visiting Mallorca? Here is my Mallorca travel guide…

My summer came early this year thanks to the trip to the largest Balearic island, Mallorca, Spain. Mallorca is definitely one of the hottest destinations this year, and I was extremely happy to have the chance to discover it together with the amazing perfume brand Betty Barclay. Two fresh fragrances from the Pure Pastel line followed me and my blogger friend Tesa across the island. Lemon and fresh mint offered us refreshment during our Mallorca adventures. So, what to see, where to swim and sleep… discover it in my Mallorca travel guide!

Location: Mallorca / Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain

Area: 3,640.11 km²

Language: Spanish (Mallorqui / Catalan), English and German are spoken

Time zone: UTC + 2 (summer) / UTC + 1 (winter)

Currency: Euro (€)

When to visit Mallorca?

Mallorca has pleasant Mediterranean climate with dry, hot summers, and mild winters. It has more than 300 days of sunshine every year, which makes it a great destination all year round. My suggestion would be to visit it in May or September to escape the crowd, but still enjoy pristine summer weather.

How to get to Mallorca?

We flew from Milan Malpensa directly to Palma de Mallorca airport with EasyJet. The flight was an hour and a half long, we were welcomed with a beautiful scenery of Balearic Islands. As you can imagine, flight tickets were affordable, but still –  a GoOpti transfer from Ljubljana to Milan was added to our transport budget.

Getting around Mallorca

Mallorca has a solid public transport, many cities are reachable by bus. However, to fully enjoy and discover island, I suggest you rent a car. We rented a Renault Megan from ROIG car rental at the airport for the whole period of our stay on Mallorca island. We were extremely satisfied with their service and the car allowed us to be completely free on our adventures.

Where to stay in Mallorca?

We actually stayed at two different hotels. The first one was the Hotel Can Mostatxins, located inside the walled town of Alcudia. You can read all about my experience in my blog post. The second hotel was the Hotel Cala Sant Vicenc, located in the heart of the village of Cala Sant Vicenc, which is known for stunning beaches. Both were a great starting point to discover the island, they were close to tourist attractions, but still far enough to enjoy our time there in peace.

Best beaches in Mallorca

Mallorca is known for beautiful crystal-clear water beaches with a distinct turquoise colour. There are many of them, one more beautiful than other and my Mallorca travel guide wouldn’t be complete without the list of the best ones out there. One of the most popular ones is Es Trenc beach, known for fine white sand that reminds of the Caribbean. To be completely honest, this was the one I was the least impressed by (the crowd and the fact that you have to pay to park in the near, were probably the main reason). Playa de Alcudia and Playa de Muro are one of the popular ones as well. My favourites were Playa de Cala Molins, Cala Clara, Cala Llombards… while Cala Deia remained on my “to visit list”. There are probably countless “best beaches in Mallorca” lists, these are the ones I found the best in my 5 days in Mallorca.

What to see in Mallorca?

Besides stunning beaches, a diverse landscape of Mallorca offers a lot for the tireless explorers. Palma de Mallorca is Mallorca’s main and largest city with a lovely Old Town, that has Arabic and Roman influences. Although finding a parking spot can be a struggle, it is worth visiting, especially for the magnificent Palma Cathedral (The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma) and Diocese Museum. The inner part of the island resembles Tuscany, and that is where we found the most stunning poppy fields. Alcudia Old Town is probably the cutest city on Mallorca, I already wrote about it here. Another “must visit” is definitely Es Pontas, a natural arch in the sea at the southeastern part of the island of Mallorca. If you are heading to Es Trenc beach, you should make a quick stop at Salinas de Es Trenc to buy some salt produced locally or just grab a coffee and icecream at the lovely cafe. Last but not least, the best views you will enjoy on the winding road to Cap Formentor. Mirador Es Colomer can be your first stop on the way to the lighthouse, it is usually crowdy, but still worth the visit.

how to find jeans

When in doubt, wear jeans.

The perfect pair of jeans can make you look faller, feel more confident and above all – resolve many wardrobe dilemmas. The perfect pair of jeans is essential in every wardrobe, don’t you think? If you’re like me, always searching for the holy grail pair, these few tips might come in handy the next time you’re on the hunt for them.

#1 know your measurements!

Knowing your size doesn’t actually mean you will be able to buy jeans from the hanger without trying them on, it is way easier if you know where approximately to look size-wise. There is no industry standard for women jeans sizing, which means the size will vary depending on the brand. In my experience, it is best to look for sizing that correspond to your waist and inseam measurements. Another tip would be, when you’re looking into buying stretchy jeans, try a size that feels a bit too tight (they always stretch over time!).

#2 Don’t buy jeans…

…when you’re sweaty. Or having PMS. Trust me.

#3 Ask for advice

Believe it or not, salesmen are there to help you (and not only to annoy you with questions such as: “are you looking for something specific?” the minute you walk in the store). I’ve got some great advice especially from male salesmen (Tom Tailor’s staff in Ljubljana is the best!).

#4 Invest in classic pieces

In my opinion, invest in timeless classic pieces such as blue skinny jeans and regular straight fit jeans. It is worth spending a few euros more on a good pair of jeans you can wear for ages!

#5 Blue is not the only colour

Jeans come in various sizes, fits, colours and washes. Light jeans are more appropriate during warmer and dryer months (and usually don’t pair well with dark shoes). Dark blue and black jeans you can wear all year round, they can also be appropriate for semi-business occasions as well as “casual Fridays”. I also added a pair of grey jeans this season, which are great for different colour combinations, while they also add some “rocker” touch.

Timelessly classy, burgundy is the ideal colour for the upcoming Autumn. This off-the-shoulder burgundy dress I found at Dorothy Perkins instantly won my heart. Long sleeves, great midi length and lace material make it perfect for special occasions such as parties, day and night events, birthdays or weddings.

Rovinj Croatia

Rovinj is a small and charming city in Croatia, located by the north Adriatic Sea, on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula. I visited it this summer together with my blogger friend Vanesa (Takeoff with love), however this wasn’t my first visit. I’ve been to Rovinj, Croatia numerous times in the past. It was the destination of our training camp back in my track & field days. We always had an amazing time there, so when Vanesa suggested we visit it, I was “in” without hesitation. Visiting a picturesque town together with a friend that lives abroad was definitely one of the highlights of my summer. Escaping my daily working routine to the seaside with Renault Kadjar was a great idea! So, what do to in Rovinj, Croatia?

Visit the Rovinj Old Town

Rovinj old town is without doubt the most impressive part of Rovinj. You can see a lot of Venetian influence, since Rovinj was once part of the Venetian Republic. Smooth and shiny marble cobblestone streets and colourful houses are especially beautiful in the morning, when streets are not so packed with tourists. But on the other hand, they fully come alive in the afternoon with all the laughter, the smell of the sea mixing with some delicious cuisine. Wondering the cobbled streets you will probably end up in one of the cutest boutiques, restaurants or art galleries, and if your step takes you a bit further uphill, you will get to the St. Euphemia’s church, built in 1736. The church is definitely one of the main landmarks of Rovinj.

Swim in the Adriatic Sea

The water in most parts of Croatia is very clear, the same goes for Rovinj area. Monte beach is the town beach located in the very centre of Rovinj, we visited it in the morning, when the sea was peaceful and the crowd wasn’t there yet. Overall, in the close proximity of Rovinj you will find many wonderful beaches worth visiting, Lone beach for example is one of the most popular ones. And the best thing is that you will most likely also find a spot under the pine trees to relax right next to them.

Visit the nearby islands

The Rovinj archipelago consist of over 15 smaller islands, located in the close proximity of the shore line. They are all green, covered in pine trees and are a perfect choice for a daily visit. There are a lot of boats offering transport throughout the whole day. The closes island to Rovinj is the St. Catherine island, which also offers a great view of Rovinj.

Stay at Spirito Santo Palazzo Storico hotel

Rovinj has developed into a real tourist centre in the past few years. There are new hotels opening up on every corner – from boutique to big, commercial ones. Hotels in Rovinj can be overbooked in summer months, so I advise you to book your accommodation in advance if possible. My suggestion would definitely be the Spirito Santo Palazzo Storico hotel, small and luxurious boutique hotels in the centre of Rovinj. You can read all about it in my blog post.

Walk the forest park Golden Cape (Punta Corrente)

The forest park Golden Cape (also known as Punta Corrente) is ideal for sports activities, such as cycling and running. It was my favourite location for long runs back in my track & field days, I truly enjoyed all the kilometres made in this green paradise. You can also visit some of the beaches along the coast.

Watch the sunset

The beauty of Rovinj is not only hidden in the streets and clear water, but also in Rovinj’s location. Rovinj’s old town is located on a peninsula, so there are numerous spots that are perfect for watching the sunset. The sun sets directly into the sea, leaving a beautiful, romantic atmosphere. The pier is probably one the most popular places to watch the sun set, but still, despite being packed with tourists, we couldn’t resist to join.
